Drawing prompt generator

Each prompt gives you a subject plus a style, a mood and a five-color palette. On Medium and Hard you also get a challenge, such as one continuous line or only three colors.

How to get the most from a prompt

  1. Generate a prompt and read all of it, including the style and the challenge.
  2. Tap any part to change only that part. Turn on Keep for the parts you like.
  3. Use the palette: tap a color to copy its code, or open the Sketch pad, where the palette is ready as your pens.
  4. Post your drawing with the prompt text so friends can try the same one.

What makes a good art prompt

A good prompt is specific enough to start right away and open enough to leave room for your own style. That is why each prompt combines a clear subject with a looser style and mood. The challenge line is optional pressure: it keeps practice from becoming routine.

Using the color palette

Every prompt comes with five colors that work together. Limiting yourself to a set palette makes a drawing look planned and calm, even when you work fast. If the colors fight the mood, press Shuffle colors for a new set.

Questions

What is the difference between a drawing idea and a drawing prompt?

An idea is just a subject. A prompt adds direction: a style, a mood, a palette and a challenge to shape how you draw it.

Can I use these prompts for digital art?

Yes. The prompts work for pencil, ink, paint and digital tools alike, and you can copy each palette color as a hex code.

Are the prompts made by AI?

No. The prompts are combined in your browser from hand-written lists of subjects, styles, moods and challenges.
